When thinking about providing documents for a trip, the passport immediately comes to mind. But it is not just a Brazilian passport (with a visa, if applicable, or RG, in the case of countries that do not require a passport), that you need to bring when traveling to other countries as a tourist.
You may need to provide several other documents for your trip: International Driving Permit (“International Driver’s License”), Vaccination Card, Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate… Some countries even require you to have travel insurance.

Not to mention the International Student, Teacher or Youth Card and the Hostelling International – HI (formerly “Youth Hostels”) wallet, necessary for you to obtain many benefits if you fall into one of these categories.
The good news is that getting these documents for your trip is simpler than it may seem. Come on!
International Driving Permit – PID (International Driver’s License)
Some countries accept only the original and valid CNH (driver’s license or “driver’s license”) as a document to drive a car or motorcycle during your trip.
But, to drive in countries that do not accept only the CNH, you will need an International Driving Permit – PID (“International Driving License”) provided by your state’s DETRAN. You must take it with you, in addition to your original and valid CNH.
In the case of DETRAN in the State of São Paulo, you can order online and receive the PID at home, by mail. See the DETRAN-SP website on how to proceed to obtain your International Driving Permit.
International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis – CIVP
If before it was mandatory to be vaccinated against certain diseases, such as yellow fever, before traveling to certain countries, the list of countries and vaccines has only grown!
To prove that you have received the vaccines required for your trip, you will need the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis – CIVP. This certificate is a specific document issued by ANVISA, with international validity.
It is not your ordinary vaccination card. But you will need her ID card for ANVISA to issue the CIVP, which is a travel document, not a simple ID card. First of all, you need to find out what vaccines you need to take to travel to the country or countries you are going to visit. If you have already taken and saved the character, great. If not, you will need to go to a health center or UBS to get the vaccines and get your card.
Do this as soon as possible as soon as you define where you are going to travel. Remember that the yellow fever vaccine needs to be taken at least 10 days before your trip. Also consider that, after taking all the vaccines, you will still have to ask CIVP from ANVISA. Thereafter, it may take up to 10 business days to issue the certificate.
See the official information from ANVISA on how to obtain the International Certificate of Vaccination and Prophylaxis.
Travel insurance
To travel to certain countries in Europe, which are countries adhering to the Schengen Treaty, it is mandatory to have travel insurance with specific coverage. Will someone demand proof, by means of a document, that you have this insurance when you arrive in the country? It is unlikely, but possible.
Some credit cards provide this insurance to their customers at no charge. If this is not the case for your card, get adequate travel insurance for Schengen countries. All good insurers have this type of product.
The European countries that require this insurance are Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Netherlands, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Sweden and Switzerland.
World Student, Teacher and Youth Portfolio
Not everyone knows, but the ISIC – International Student Identity Card *, ITIC – International Teacher Identity Card ** and IYTC – International Youth International Card are valuable documents for your trip if you fall into one of these categories. They give their holders the right to an enormous amount and variety of discounts in many countries – including Brazil. (* World Student Card; ** World Teacher Card; *** Young Card)
There are discounts on means of transportation, cultural activities, tourist attractions, restaurants etc.
ISIC is for students in general, from elementary school to doctorate; ITIC, for teachers who teach in colleges, colleges, universities, pre-university courses, technical courses and language courses; and IYTC, for young people aged 18 to 30 who are not studying.
In Brazil, these portfolios can be requested through the official website of the Student Portfolio, which, in turn, is the ISIC website in Brazil.
You can get more information on all portfolios and discounts, worldwide, on the official ISIC website.
Hostelling International – HI (formerly “Youth Hostels”) portfolio
The hostels of the traditional organization “Youth Hostels”, which is currently called Hostelling International (HI), continue to be an excellent alternative for budget accommodation worldwide, and are not just for young people.
To stay with discounts at HI hostels, you need to join and get the card, which is cheap and very worthwhile. Remember, however, that it is good to reserve your place so as not to run into a crowded hostel; and that the prices of the daily rates at the hostels vary among themselves and also from one room to another in the same hostel.
